The text of "The Story of a Maid" came to me as a surprise. I originally intended to write a song about Beren to show his heroic qualities, but after sitting on it for a month I started to contemplate what constitutes a hero and, more importantly, why was Lúthien attracted to him in the first place.
My own experience with love came in and a slightly non-canonic poem covering the meeting of Beren and Lúthien and their reception at the elvish court was finished within an hour. This being my first song I originally gave it a grave serious (and boring) melody, but fortunately, I asked Hana Soukupova for help with the music and she could detach enough to give the song a pleasant parodic feel instead.

Tinúviel, gracious Dancer,
the moment I saw the radiance of your eyes,
my heart aches, my world revolves,
I wish for you to be mine forever.
