The Song of Celebration Oslavná III. věk

Composed 2000 Recorded 2-11.2019

“And the shadow departed, and the Sun was unveiled, and light leaped forth; and the waters of Anduin shone like silver, and in all the houses of the City men sang for the joy that welled up in their hearts from what source they could not tell”. Then a great Eagle arrived in Gondor flying and bearing news of Sauron’s defeat, and encouraging people to sing and celebrate the victory.

Since the first time I read this really evocative passage from the Lord of the Rings about twenty years ago I have imagined trumpeters, bagpipers and drummers marching triumphantly along Gondor. So to translate my music visions evoked by reading the Great Eagle’s poem into what has become The Song of Celebration wasn’t particularly difficult.

The Song of Celebration

Rejoice, you people of Middle-Earth,
for the ring of Sauron has been destroyed,
and his dark realm is over.

Sing along, you soldiers of the Tower of Guard,
for your pain has been relieved,
and the Black Gate has fallen,
and your king has ridden through,
and Sauron is no more.

Cheer and be pleased from the East to the West
for a brave King is here again,
and he will reign among you
for the rest of his life.

And the Tree that was leafless shall bloom again,
and it will grow on the highest hill,
and will bring you hope and peace.
Celebrate you people!
